In the distant future, humanity has taken to the stars, and a golden age of peace and prosperity has begun.

One man, known only as g0l1ath, despises the rest of humanity for their perceived weakness. He has taken it upon himself to return mankind to the old ways of blood and steel.

Using his advanced technology, g0l1ath has captured the greatest warriors from across history and transported them through time to his secret lair in space and stored them in vats. A select few managed to break out.

Now these strangers must learn to work together to defeat this new threat...

Submission for InspireJam, inspired by the 1988 arcade game Gain Ground.

In the original, players had to reach an exit point with at least one character or destroy all enemies on the level before time runs out. An integral element of Gain Ground is the hostage mechanic as an approach to a lives system; if you complete a level or exit with a character while carrying a hostage, you can use that character in subsequent levels.

Our interpretation of the modifiers:

  • “Stranger in a strange land” - Play as warriors from across time teleported to the far future.
  • "Touch Grass" - Inspired by David and Goliath, use modest weapons of your age to take down a powerful foe.
  • "Invert Your Expectations" - Based on the arcade game Gain Ground, but instead of warriors from the future in a historical simulation, play as warriors from the past fighting the enemies of the future.

Very well put together from all those different sources! Music is very nice.

The game is also very unforgiving.

Also on Google Chrome it seems Hardware Acceleration is needed to play it (at a proper frame rate).
